Alice Hirata, MD

hirataDr. Alice Hirata helps all her patients manage their health to the best of their ability. She is an advocate for low-intervention births; however, certain circumstances—such as high-risk pregnancies and multiple gestation births—require expertise she provides. Dr. Hirata offers a full spectrum of general obstetrics and gynecology services within the office and, when necessary, the operating room; she performs simple procedures as well as laparoscopy.

Dr. Hirata attended the College of William and Mary for her undergraduate degree. She received her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia and completed her obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Hirata is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

For over 5 years, Dr. Hirata has been honored to assist in the training of over 100 Haitian skilled birth attendants with the organization Midwives for Haiti. Midwives For Haiti trains Haitian men and women in providing prenatal care and skilled birth assistance to their fellow Haitian sisters, who too frequently either die in childbirth or lose their newborn without such care. During this exposure, she’s developed a deep respect for midwives, low intervention birth and the compassionate support of the natural, normal birth process.

Dr. Hirata deeply values the relationship that develops with the women and couples she works with; it brings sincere pleasure to her work. Outside of work, Dr. Hirata enjoys spending time with her beloved husband and 2 sons, Jake and Mark. She enjoys trail running with her dogs and friends. With her family, she enjoys adventure travel, exploring the great outdoors and skiing.
